GTA 6 PC Release Date: When Can PC Players Expect the Port?

Jun 22, 2026·4 min read

Rockstar Games has confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI will launch first on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. PC players, however, have been given no date — and history suggests they will wait a long time.

Rockstar's PC release history

GTA IV released on console in April 2008 and PC in December 2008 (8 months later). GTA V released on console in September 2013 and PC in April 2015 (18 months later). Red Dead Redemption 2 released on console in October 2018 and PC in November 2019 (13 months later).

Realistic PC release window

Based on this trajectory, expect GTA 6 PC sometime between November 2027 and May 2028 — 12 to 18 months after console. A simultaneous PC launch is highly unlikely.

Why Rockstar delays PC

Rockstar uses the delay to push console sales, eliminate piracy risk during peak hype, and ship a substantially upgraded PC version with higher resolutions, framerates and modding tools.

What to do as a PC player

Two choices: buy a PS5 or Series X to play at launch, or wait 12-18 months for the PC version. Many PC players choose to wait — the PC port historically arrives with major visual upgrades.

Frequently asked

Is GTA 6 confirmed for PC?
Not officially. But every Rockstar mainline title since GTA III has eventually come to PC, so it is a near-certainty.
Can I play GTA 6 on Steam Deck?
Only once the PC port releases. The Steam Deck is not powerful enough to emulate a PS5 build.
