GTA VI delayed to November 19, 2026 — Rockstar cites polish

After previously moving from a fall window to May 26, Rockstar has locked the GTA VI launch to November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The largest open world they've ever built needs more polish.

Rockstar Games has officially delayed Grand Theft Auto VI to November 19, 2026 — the second delay in 18 months. The previous target was May 26, 2026, which itself was a slip from an original fall window. Take-Two leadership has re-affirmed this date in every earnings call since.

Why November 19

Rockstar cited the need for 'additional polish' on the State of Leonida — the studio's largest and most varied open world ever shipped. Six confirmed regions, the most detailed pedestrian AI in Rockstar history, and pervasive ray-traced global illumination demand substantially more QA than past projects.

Market reaction

Take-Two stock dipped briefly on the delay announcement before recovering — analysts framed it as a long-term positive. Recent gaming history shows delayed launches that ship polished consistently outperform on-time releases that need patches. GTA 6's November 2026 launch positions it as the holiday season's anchor title.

What this means for players

If you've pre-ordered or plan to: nothing changes except the wait. Free up 150-200 GB on your console, watch for the June 25 pre-order window if you haven't locked an edition, and use the extra months to clear your backlog.
