GTA 6 'An Extended Look' is here — 26 minutes of PS5 gameplay revealed
Rockstar dropped Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026 — a 26-minute in-game deep dive captured entirely on PS5. Character switching, overhauled gunplay and melee, and the most detailed NPC world Rockstar has ever shown.
It finally happened. On August 27, 2026, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — a 26-minute presentation that premiered on Netflix at 3:00 PM ET and hit the official Rockstar YouTube channel and the GTA VI website six hours later. Unlike the two cinematic trailers before it, this is a proper gameplay reveal: every second was captured in-game running on a PlayStation 5.
What the footage showed
The Extended Look follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through Vice City and the wider State of Leonida, showcasing seamless on-the-fly character switching, overhauled melee and gunplay, and an enormous library of unique NPC animations. Rockstar leaned hard into density — streets, beaches and interiors full of pedestrians reacting to the world rather than looping the same handful of canned behaviors.
Why this matters
Two cinematic trailers proved GTA 6 looked incredible. The Extended Look proves it plays like the generational leap Rockstar promised. Ray-traced lighting, dense crowds, reactive AI and buttery character swaps in a single unbroken capture is the strongest signal yet that the November 19, 2026 launch is real and close.
Rockstar isn't calling it 'Trailer 3'
Interestingly, Rockstar has not numbered this as Trailer 3 — it's officially 'An Extended Look.' Semantics aside, this is the third major GTA 6 video and by far the most substantial. Expect the full breakdown, screenshot analysis and new-character deep dives across our guides this week.
